Councillor Steve Ring
Steve moved to Lithgow in 1987 when he accepted the position of Manager Hartley Historic Site with the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service a position he held for over 30 years. He has extensive experience in both heritage and protected area management and has won three NSW Heritage Trust Awards.
He originally intended the position at Hartley to be a stepping stone but fell in love with the site and the broader community. He raised his family with his wife Karen and actively participated in the P&C Committees of Portland Central and St Joseph’s Primary School. In 2005 he took part time leave from work to research and write “St. Vincent’s Catholic Church Portland –Centenary History 1905 -2005” for St Joseph’s Primary School.
Steve brings a broad range of experience to the role of Councillor: project management, financial management, business planning, environmental planning, asset management, tourism management inclusive of event management and strong governance skills.
He was originally elected to Council in 2016 and served a full year as Deputy Mayor from September 2019 to 2020 and was the architect of Councils response to the aftermath of the 2019 Bushfires, Not elected in 2021 he rejoined the Lithgow District Chamber of Commerce and took charge of implementing their revitalise business program.
With the resignation of former Councillor Deanna Goodsell, he nominated for the 2023 countback election and was successful. Why stand again? Because like the rest of our community he was disappointed with the performance of both the Councillors and Administration, particularly in relation to the Rate Rise.
